Our Interior Design Philosophy
The Interior Design portion of a new or renovated house is the most intimate part of building your new home. We feel that it should be accomplished with sensitivity, love and kindness. You are exposing your most vulnerable parts to us, and we take that seriously. We want you to know that we will be sensitive and private with everything you tell us. Many express that this process is scary, overwhelming and stressful... but it does not have to be! We are here to make it fun for you. We do all the work, therefore all you have to do is to say "yes" or "no". You get to have fun selecting your favorite pieces and discarding the rest. This process can and should be easy and enjoyable.
The interior process is our chance to get to know you a little better and to become more sensitive to your needs, whims, quirks and wants. It gives us a chance to understand what makes you happy: What colors make you feel warm and comforted; What textured floor tiles make you smile; What light fixtures and plumbing fixtures make you go, "YES".
To us, Home is about comfort, security and relaxation from this busy world. It is a place where you can truly be yourself... Just Be. We want the opportunity to help create unique spaces that resonate with you and your personality. We talk to the entire family. We even talk to your children (if you would like us to) and ask them about their wants and needs at their age. Just like our clothing, a home is a reflection of our personality. Do you have a wild side, a retro side, a traditional side or a modern very sleek side of you that you want to express? What do you want the world to know about you?
We would love to be a part of this journey with you, and we are confident we can make it pleasant, relaxing and memorable for you and your family.
First and foremost, we get an overall vision of what you want this home to look and feel like through vision boards, photos and a questionnaire we will have created for you. We then take one room at a time and discuss your needs and wants for that room. Next, we discuss how you want that room to feel and look. If you have photos that you have collected, we would love to see them. If not, we will give you some pictures to look at to see which ones you are drawn to. Once we know your overall design aesthetic and vision, we can then begin to select the pieces in that room that will complement each other most effectively.
We need to make sure that the light fixtures, plumbing fixtures and door hardware all complement one another in finish and color. We need to see how the colors in the floor compliment the cabinets and countertops. We need to study how the toilet accessories match the cabinet hardware in finish and color. We even study the color of the grout in the tile (yes, we are a little OCD) because we want to know how this grout color affects how that rooms feels. Finally, we study how the color on the walls ties in all of the above items to create a relaxing and comfortable space.
Yes, there is a lot to think about in just one room. However, when we have your vision, the rest comes naturally for our team. Keep in mind we have been doing this for over 25 years!
Together we can make this process fun.
Take a deeper look into our process below.
1. DESIGN QUIZ
First, we get to know your style and what you hope to achieve in the inside of your home. Our goal here is to answer some questions on what you like and what you don't like. Simple as that!
2. PHOTO BOARDS
Here is where we pinpoint your aesthetic with specific photos and style ideas.
3. DESIGN BOARDS
Our interiors team comes up with selections specific to your unique home, room by room. We typically have clients back into the office to go through each board in detail.
4. FINAL CLIENT APPROVAL
With approvals from the client to move forward, we then begin the process of purchasing fixtures and lights.
5. 3D VISUALIZATION
A 3D model walk-through is an extremely useful tool in communicating the overall feel of specific rooms, especially with the intricacies of spaces like master bedrooms, bathrooms, and kitchens.
6. FIXTURE SCHEDULE
This is a detailed spreadsheet with all fixture information.
7. REVIEW GC ORDERS
Prior to placing it for final review, we review all the specifics for interior doors, plumbing, tiles, hardware, countertops etc. with the general contractor.
8. SITE VISITS
This includes a rough walk through of the plumbing, bath accessories, electrical, countertop templating, trim & millwork, and paint.
9. FINAL WALK THROUGH
We strive to see projects all the way through. This includes a final walk through with the clients to go over specifics and any remaining questions or concerns that may arise.
Summary
We love what we do, and we want to work with you to make decisions inside your home that will reflect your personality and warmth. We make it fun, we make it happy, and we truly try to give you a space that connects with your soul... a space that makes you smile.
